Why Did Jesus Have to Die?

Christmas!!!

It's finally here!

The celebration of Jesus coming down to Earth to live among us!

...

But hold up...

Pause the carols,

Stop stuffing cookies down your throat...

Why did Jesus come in the first place?

Well, you may say, He came to die.

To take the sin and blame we have on us on himself.

But... hold the eggnog...

Why did he have to die??

An interesting question... and I believe I have an answer.

In Genesis 3, Eve takes a chomp into the forbidden fruit of the garden and starts the sin cycle that has haunted our world since. But soon after, God gives a promise to the Serpent:

"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

~Genesis 3:15

In this passage, God makes a promise to come back with a vengeance, using one of this woman's offspring. That offspring would come roughly 4,000 years later, in a manger in a teeny tiny town called (you guessed it) Bethlehem.

So there you go.

Jesus was our atonement for sin, promised by God 6,000 years ago.

I don't know about you, but that's a whole lot better of a present than anything Ole Santa Clause is gonna give you this year!

Cheering you on, (and drinking Eggnog)
