When Hurts Collide

Let's say that you have an injured hand. Someone did something to injure your hand. You get mad at that person and decide to slap an open wound that they have on their arm. Who gets hurt? Well, both of you. You were both hurting before, and you are both hurting even more now. Did it help you to slap that person? No, if anything, it hurt you even more.

This is how we should think when retaliating at someone. When we lash out at someone who has hurt us, we are not only hurting them (hint: that is BAD), but we're hurting ourselves as well (hint: this is also BAD)! Jesus says that when someone hurts us, we are to "turn the other cheek" - let them do it. Don't retaliate, love them! Jesus died for them too! Let Jesus' love flow through you to the other person!

So next time someone hurts you, think of how you would want to be treated. Who knows? Maybe they'll come around.

Cheering you on!
