What Now?

Psalm 46:10 reminds us, “Be still and know that I am God.” Sometimes life can get so incredibly hectic that it feels impossible to just be still. There are so many times in my life, where I completely take my eyes off of God, and begin to focus on the situation at hand. Those times are always dark, but God is always the light shining on the other side. Recently, the pastor of my church retired. He had been our pastor for nearly twenty years, and the only pastor I had ever known. Everyone in the church was tested. To make the situation even more dramatic, our church secretary of thirty-five years announced retirement. By this point, everyone was beginning to wonder what God had in store for this church. Then, in mid-April, our worship leader announced that she was stepping down. OK, great! We are losing three of the key staff positions in less than a month and a half. However, God knew EXACTLY what He was doing. Our pastor’s last day at church was very emotional and so many questions were asked. Who is going to become our new pastor? Will he be a good fit? Will we love him as much as we have loved this pastor? Well, during the sermon our pastor reminded us that GOD is in control and knows EXACTLY what He is doing, even when His plan feels so scattered to us. He told us, “Just let GOD be GOD.” Well, it took a little while for God’s plan to become apparent to us. The search committee at our church settled on one candidate for the position in a matter of weeks, and by the end of May, we were meeting with the candidate. Two Sundays ago, the candidate preached for the first time, and after a vote was taken, it was announced that our church had a new pastor. It could not have been more apparent that God had this whole situation under control. Our secretary retired the end of May, and we have found a replacement for her. The worship position is under control at this time, and we have an amazing woman leading worship every Sunday. Our interim senior pastor, has brought nothing but good to our church as well. I still feel connected to our previous pastor, because he was the only pastor that I knew, but now, I see what God had in store all along. Sometimes life just gets hard. It seems like everything goes wrong at one point in time. Believe me, I have been there. The lesson that I have learned is that God always knows what He is doing! What God did for my church and my family, He can do for you. All you need to do is give Him control. Believe me, it will be the best decision you ever made!
